||| home ||| ||| Leslie G Ratcliff ||| Les Ratcliff is an expert in glazing specification, design appraisal, quality standards, product design development and testing, defect and failure investigation and solutions. Author of the 'Consumers' guide to double glazing', published in 1994. 1954 -1964: Henry Hope & Sons, Smethwick; Broad training that lead to an HNC (Building with structural bias) and then six years of design and development work. His work included being the initial project designer for the cladding of the GPO Tower in London. Les was involved with the developent of aluminium and plastics from the start of the use of these materials. Les also developed a dry glazing system for the new Birmingham Post & Mail building, his MD got cold feet and a wet system was installed. Then Chief designer, Heywood Helliwell (later Heywood Wiliams Ltd), Huddersfield, here he was at the forefront of the development of dry glazed drained glazing systems. MBIM 1966. Then Chief Designer, later Research & Development Manager, Crittall Hope Ltd, Braintree. Then Technical Sales Manager, later Associate Director (Technical), Modern Art Glass Company, Leeds. 1985: formed LGR Design & Services, an independent design & technical consultancy to offer specialist services for those concerned with the fenestration of buildings. 1999 retired from the industry, lives in West Yorkshire, UK. |
