 A heavy air raid of 498 aircraft on the city of Dortmund on the evening of 6 October 1944 marked the beginning of a second "Battle of the Ruhr"... This bomb attack claimed at least 1148 victims in Dortmund and was the beginning of a series of extremely heavy bombardments.
